SKIN SUBSTITUTE

A skin substitute procedure involves the application of advanced cellular and tissue-based products (CTPs) to provide a biological scaffold that facilitates accelerated wound closure. This intervention offers the distinct advantages of establishing a protective barrier against infection while simultaneously delivering vital cytokines and growth factors that trigger angiogenesis and recruit host cells to the site. By replenishing the missing extracellular matrix (ECM) with bioengineered dermal equivalents or allografts, this treatment effectively bridges the gap in stalled healing environments. It is primarily indicated for patients with complex, full-thickness injuries—such as deep-tissue burns or chronic diabetic and venous ulcers—who have not reached closure through standard care and require a robust biological framework to achieve successful re-epithelialization.
